Background

Back in 1985 Anders Lindberg, with his father Hasse, picked up a test chassis at the Swedish company Bil & Truck in Möndal (just outside Gothenburg). The chassis was transported back to Lindberg garage, a place he spent many many hours during his life. For example in 1984 (with his father Hasse), Lindberg built his own Volvo Turbo Cup car, all the way from a empty chassis to a full car, he raced this car in the Turbo Cup, in Sweden, 1984 to 1985, then it was sold to Denmark.

But to get back to the actual car, first of all the body was stripped from unnecessary parts and plating, then body was welded and reinforced, all mounts for the roll cage was also welded in place. After allt this was work was done the body was transported to the paint firm to get a new paint, at the Centrum Lack company, who had promised to do the paint job on Lindbergs car in exchange for he putting their name on his car. After the car was done at the paint shop the empty and newly painted chassis was transported back to Lindbergs garage at his home, to start up the build up of the car.

Something, that I feel is well worth mentioning, is that all the work on the car was done by Anders Lindberg himself (and his dad), Lindberg did all from the welding on the chassis, the build up and the completion of the engine and so on. You might say that he is his own boss! And Lindbergs dad, Hasse Lindberg, was always at his sons side helping out, he did all the smaller or the bigger thing, the important things when you have a smaller racing team. All work was done in Lindbergs garage at home (besides the paint job), he have never had any help from big sponsors and so on. He have always carried his own weight, not depending on anyone. However Anders had one major contact, the most important, and that was a close relationship with Volvo. This made it possible for him to always get the best race parts possible, directly from Volvo. This contact with Volvo also made it possible for Lindberg to build this car, and he only 29 years old, when he built this car with his bare hands.

So Anders was now to go from the Volvo Turbo Cup to the Swedish Touring Championship in Group-A, placing 11th in 1984 and then 1st place in 1985 in the Volvo Turbo Cup, with a stunning 19 point before the 2nd placing car of Ulf Svensson. So Lindberg was more then ready for Group-A racing! And in his first season in the Swedish Touring Championship 1986, he placed himself at a good 3rd placing after the last race, only three points after the 2nd car of Per-Gunnar "Peggen" Andersson! And Peggen had been racing at this level for two year!

In 1985 Anders had established a contact with Per Stureson and Ingemar Persson, of the IPS Motorsport team, as he sought help with the shocks on his Volvo Turbo Cup car, and sought their help again in 1986, with his new car. He also got to buy wheels from Ronal from Stureson and Persson. So Lindberg became good friends with them both, witch resulted in that he got the opportunity to drive with Stureson at Zolder, in the European Touring Championhip in -86 (the finished at 7th place).

This brings us to 1987, and Lindberg takes another step in his career. As his is offered a place, with his own car, in the IPS Motorsport team with Per Stureson (as driver) and Ingemar Persson (as team manager). This he can't refuse, and takes the offer and joins the team.

So prior to the 1987 DTM season, Anders brings his car down to Germany, this to setup and to foil the car, this was just about a week before the start of the season. The team have its base in Germany, and shortly before the start of the season the team gets a fine Volvo FL10 truck (borrowed from Volvo Germany), and a newly built trailer to, the trailer is built in Sweden at Ingemar Persson's own company. This to transport the cars and parts in. The IPS team had backup from Volvo Germany in 1987, and was one of the more proffesional teams in DTM at that time.

However this year was to be a hard one, this due to the new model from BMW, the BMW E30 M3. Lindbergs car went good throughout the whole season though, as the car worked fine when he could avoid any accidents with other cars. However some races was aborted, due to accidents, and at one time when a electric failure occured.

When the 1987 season hade ended and Anders returned to Sweden, with his car, it was sold. The buyer was the Swedish plumber company, ABC-Rör, the car was now to be used in the Swedish Touring Championship of 1988, and the driver was Ulf Svensson. Svensson placed himself in a 3rd place after the -88 season. The car was then sold in 1989, to Hasse "Mr. Music" Berglund (the founder of the Swedish cd-music company Mr. Music), he however only managed to place 11th in total in -89. And the following year, 1990, the car, once more, is sold, this time to Bill Berggren.

After 1990 the car is lost for many years... And all of a sudden the car reappears in a car ad, and Pelle Nilsson sees this and strikes quick and buys the car! The car still had the same livery as back in 1988-1990.
