Background

During 1985 the Magnum Racing team, led by Mats Magnusson, had to build a new car at the end of the season due to that Ulf had an accident with the regular car (#605). At Estoril Ulf was driving in a new built car by Magnum Racing, a plain white, bumpers and all. However this car was only used once in 1985 by the Magnum team, and that was on Estoril.

This car, just like the #605 car was put to rest for now, after the season ended, but this car got to be used really early in 1986. On a cold day at Monza in 1986, when the newly formed RAS Sport/Volvo team, during a test run, one of the main cars caught fire with Johnny Cecotto behind the wheels, this was the #602-car. Cecotto made it out of the car with no harm done to him. And the RAS team now needed a new car fast, and now the newly built car from 1985 came to good use to the Belgian RAS team, the car was to be the #604-car now. The #604-Volvo was used at Monza, Donington and Hockenheim, until the #602-car was restored and put back to use again. The main drivers of the #604-Volvo was Ulf Granberg and Anders Olofsson, they placed 3rd in the car at Donington. The car was not used again until the end of the season 1986, when Volvo and the RAS-team made the choise to add a third car to the team, this to increase Volvos chances of winning the series. With the #26 on the door and behind the wheels was Swede Per-Gunnar "Peggen" Andersson (whom had raced his privateer Volvo 240 in the DTM-series erlier 1984-1986) and Italian Mauro Balid (whom earlier had raced the Volvo turbo at the famous Spa Francorchamp 24 hours race). The pair drove in the two last rounds of the season -86 (Zolder and Jarama), where they placed 5th as best at Estoril in Portugal.

And just like the #605-Volvo the #604-Volvo have the classic detail from the cars built by Magnum Racing, the lowering of the air jack mount, and the levers for the fire-extinguisher and the electric break levers, under the front windshield as you can notice on some photos.
The #604-Volvo also had Brembo-brakes like the #605-Volvo. But this car (#604) also had an other detail, it had, just like the 1984 GTM Belgian cars, centeredwindshield wiper, the other holes was left intact.

Well history is history, and the history is that when Volvo proclaimed that they were leaving the Group-A scene as a works team 1986, some cars were left over, the #604-, #605- and the #606-Volvo and the #601- and #602-Volvo was scrapped on Volvos direct order. So with the three cars left (#604, #605 and #606) was of to differnet places. However the #604-Volvos destiny was quite not finished yet, and was sold to Leif Wiik, Finland, along with a Volvo F10 Truck with trailer and spare parts.

Wiiks intentions was to race the #604-Volvo in the Finnish Championship 1987, this was done and he won the championship with no major problems... At one time Leif had a accident with the #604-Volvo, and the damages was to great that they had to replace the whole rear end of the car. The car was dismounted and restored to mint conditiont, and later after that the car was put on display on a museum in Finland.
Years after the restoration Leif got sick,
and after a short time of sickness Leif Wiik sadly left this world in 2002. Leif family, together with a close friend Matti Hakala, put the car out for sale in 2002, price was 50.000 Euro. But the car never was sold and remained as a fine display object at the museum in Tampere, Finland. Since the restoration the car have never been raced, only started at some occasions.

The car have now been returned to Swedish soil once more, its been some 30 years since the car left Sweden... Now the car rests secure with Per-Gunnar "Peggen" Andersson that actually drove the car in two races in 1986.
