Background

As I first contacted  Rolf, in 2005, he informed me that he had bought the car at the exact right moment in 2000, as the present owner was planing to rebuild the car into a Special Saloon car. This means that the whole car would, more or less, bee lost forever. But thank god Rolf saved Peggen Anderssons old race car. And as Rolf continues and tells me that after many years of searching for the right pars, the unique Group-A parts, the old race car is not just complete, but he have also updated the car to latest specification in suspensions and engine.

Rolf also tells me that he is waiting with a full restoration of the body itself until the engine, the electronics and brakes are fully restored. Even so the body is in good condition after all these years, but the body however shows the marks of old battles, but Rolf says that he like that the body have "battle scars", it kinda belongs he thinks. This old race car is one of very few remaining Group-A Volvos that is whole and complete. Rolf himself have plans of reinstate the into German racing, in the Youngtimer series and at chosen occations here in Sweden.

Now lets tell the story of this great car.

In 1984 this car was built from scratch by Per- Gunnar "Peggen" Andersson, Halmstad, Sweden, together with his friend
Johnny Haraldsson, even so the car was not built up latest specification. Peggen still had a winner car at his hands even so. The same year as the car was built Peggen engaged in DTM, or DRM as it was first named, in Germany, that also first started up in 1984. Already in the 3rd round of the DRM Peggen placed himself on a 3rd place on the podium, but best placing after that did not come until the final round where Peggen placed 4th.

To be able to finace his competing in the DTM 1985, Peggen had to let Swede Mats Lindén rent the car to compete in the Swedish- and Nordic Championship 1985, Lindén was sponsored by OK Motorsport. Lindén placing 2nd overall in the Swedish Championship. Peggen that's fighting his way in the DTM, have some good placings out the season as he finished 1st, one time 3rd and another time placing 4th and finally ending up on a 7th place overall in the DTM 1985.

New year, new sponsors and another season in the DTM-series. Peggens new sponsors sets him in a new, private sponsored team, Beckers Racing. And the year starts in favour of Peggen as he puts himself in 2nd place in the first round, the second round he placed 1st and in the third round he places 5th place, his points after the season placed him in a 8th place.

With more to come Peggen don't quit his 1986 season of racing, no he continues it due south. In his, now Rock Gas sponsored Volvo Peggen is to drive with New Zealander Dave Mcmilan at the Wellington Mobil 500 races, they finished 3rd. The season continues in New Zealand, in the South Pacific Championship (Mansfield, Baypark and Pukekohe), now sponsored by U-Bix Peggen drives with New Zealander Garry Croft.

Even 1987 Peggen continues his tour in New Zealand with the indigenous Garry Croft, and on the Nissan Mobil 500 at Wellington they managed to get to a 4th place, Garry also puts the car in the wall and the left rear fender has to be changed completly.

Later in 1987 Peggen continues his travels, but now he's in Thailand, he have sold he old trusty to Volvo Thailand, but still is Peggen to drive the car even so its not his anymore, and Peggen will now drive as works driver in the Zepspeed Works team, Peggen wins in Malaysia -87.

We continue into 1987 and on to 1988 as Peggen is facing the none existing opposition in the Thailand Touring Car Championship both years, no one was ever able to catch Peggen in his Volvo 240 Turbo, even the new powerfull BMW E30 M3 had no chance. But in Peggen now abandons Volvo, he goes to Sweden to start in the new BWM M3.

However his old racecar remains in Thailand for a while but in 1989 the car is shipped back to Sweden by Hans-Åke Söderqvist (Söderqvist Racing Sport) on the account on a Danish man, Jens Nykjaer. The next year the car swapped owners again and now is shipped to Norway, and in Norway the car changes owners about two more times, the car is raced in some uphill events and on the track.

In september
in 2000 the Swede Rolf Öhberg finds the car, at the moment the car was just a rolling chassis, Rolf decides quick and buys the car.
