Background

With a car built by Magum Racing, Stockholm, Sweden, in 1984 Greger Petersson and Ulf Granberg went out in Europe to meet the opposition in the European Touring Championship, group-A. Promising overtakes done, the Volvo flew by the BMW and Jaguars at many occasions, and BMW and Jaguar beeing the cars to beat in 1984 ETC. Later on team manager Greger Petersson choosed to take his role as manager of the team more serious, so in came Swede Robert L. Kvist and took Peterssons place as Granbergs new team mate.

On the 5th round in the ETC -84, at Brno, in then Tjeckoslovakia, something happens that you just don't want to happen. Team mate Robert Kvist is on a wet Brno track, on the testings the day before the actually race, Kvist are going a little bit to fast on the wet track, the cars starts to skid all over the track, Kvist trying to take control, the car starts to spin and hits a railing so hard that both front and rear end takes hard blows and the car finally starts to roll over and over again a couple of time and then stops and landing on the roof.

The car was totally wrecked, there was nothing to do about the car and Kvist was sent to the hospital in a haste in ambulans. However Kvist was relative unharmed by the macabre crash, but still he got spend a week in hospital. The wrecks, what was left of the car was brought home to Sweden again, and brought to  Volvo Motorsports premises, there the car was displayed to show how well the rollcage protected the driver. The roof did not show any signs of breaking of any kind.
